Often, patients with a history of obstructive lung diseases such as asthma, COPD and pneumothorax have questions regarding airline travel, trips to high altitude locations and the safety of scuba diving. The evaluation may require patients to have High Altitude Simulation Testing, which is available at the Pulmonary Diagnostic Laboratory at OSU. This test simulates conditions of high altitude and allows patients with borderline oxygenation to be evaluated for the need of supplemental oxygen before scheduling travel and/or excursions that may compromise their health.
