In this month's issue of the Journal of Asthma, Dr. Jon Parsons describes the Clinical Utility of Eucapnic Voluntary Hyperventilation Testing for the Diagnosis of Exercise-Induced Bronchospasm (EIB). This was the first description of the clinical use of EVH testing for the diagnosis of EIB in a large pulmonary practice. EVH was diagnostic in a large majority of patients.
The OSU Asthma Center offers eucapnic voluntary hyperventilation (EVH) testing through the OSU Pulmonary Diagnostics Laboratory. It is a rapid breathing test used to diagnose exercise-induced asthma. The OSU Asthma Center is the only center in central Ohio that offers EVH testing. EVH testing is the best test to evaluate potential exercise-induced asthma in all levels of competitive and recreational athletes. EVH is the International Olympic Committee's preferred test for diagnosing exercise-induced asthma for Olympic and elite-level athletes as well.
